How it works
From evidence
to recovery.
We handle every stage of the process on your behalf, coordinating with exchanges, financial institutions, and law enforcement so you don't have to. Our services are available for losses from $2,000 with no upper limit. Here is what a typical investigation looks like.
01
Financial & cybersecurity audit
We begin by auditing your financials and personal cybersecurity to establish the true total loss. Victims often underestimate what was taken. In one case, a client believed their loss was $600,000; our audit revealed it exceeded $1 million.
We also collect and analyse all available evidence to build the fullest possible picture before any tracking begins.
02
Asset tracking & investigation
We trace the stolen funds across blockchains and financial systems, identify the laundering methods used, and locate the institutions currently holding your assets.
This phase is managed entirely by Van Orton and is the most consistent stage across all cases. You receive a monthly status report throughout.
03
Recovery coordination
We submit our investigative intelligence to the relevant law enforcement agencies and financial institutions, and coordinate a combined recovery effort on your behalf.
For larger cases, we may recommend the civil recovery route: pursuing assets directly through civil courts in the jurisdiction where the funds were tracked.
$5.6M
Largest single-investigation asset freeze to date
On August 4, 2025, over $5.6 million was frozen in a single investigation as a direct result of our findings. The funds are currently being distributed by the U.S. Marshals. Van Orton was instrumental in the Department of Justice and law enforcement actions leading up to the seizure.
Areas of Practice
Crypto scam victims
Fallen victim to a cryptocurrency scam? You’re not alone. In 2023, the FBI reported over $5.6 billion lost to crypto fraud, often through fake exchanges or phishing schemes. For instance, one victim invested $15,000 in a fake trading platform promising high returns, only to see the site disappear overnight. We’re here to help trace your transactions and recover what’s possible.
Investment scam victims
Crypto investment scams have cost victims billions. In 2023, individuals lost an average of $81,259 to fake investment websites. One young father was tricked into investing in a fraudulent crypto token, losing his $240,000 life savings. Our experts investigate these schemes to help you explore your recovery options.
Romance scam victims
The most common crypto scam is the Romance scam, affecting all genders. In 2023 alone, nearly 64,000 people lost $1.14 billion. One woman sent almost $100,000 to a scammer posing as a successful businessman in Asia who promised to marry her. After months of conversation, he began asking for money—and never stopped. If you’ve faced a similar situation, we’re here to guide you through recovery and offer the support you need.
"It’s more than just trust for us — you’ve confirmed that there are industry leaders of exemplary character, and you’ve given us hope, which is priceless.”
– James H. from Columbus, GA. (client lost a total of $1.16 million to an investment scheme)
